During a special industry session, our own Bruce Taylor took the stage to interview former NFL all-star quarterback Peyton Manning in a session titled, Forum for the Future: Lessons in Leadership Both On and Off the Field. This dynamic interview related insightful lessons Manning has learned during his football career to business strategy, growth and effective leadership. Manning emphasized powerful takeaways during the session – embrace disruption to ensure growth, be resilient and learn to pivot, develop deep communication skills, master the art of teamwork, always be open to learning, and NEVER stopped being coached. When asked what has been one of his greatest takeaways from the game – Manning answered “people and relationships – when a team is truly connected it radiates power.”

  2. Taylor Farms New Jersey Awards College Scholarships To Children of Employees

It’s graduation season, and like the previous nine years, Taylor Farms will once again award deserving students, who are children of active, full-time Taylor Farms employees, with scholarships to help advance their collegiate careers.

Though we have been awarding scholarships since 2008, the Scholarship Program was formally developed in California in 2012, and this year Taylor Farms New Jersey adopted the program, in honor of our late employee David Zarrilli. David spent two and a half years as part of Team Taylor as Financial Controller where his wisdom and sense of humor had a tremendous impact on our company. Because of his love for helping others, it seems only fitting that we name this scholarship award after him.

Much like the rest of Taylor Farms’ scholarships, the David Zarrilli Memorial Scholarship is geared towards four-year undergraduate university or graduate program students and is available to children of Taylor Farms New Jersey employees.

An internal committee chose two promising students, who were each awarded a $6,250 scholarship:

Elivett Sanchez Ortiz, whose mother Elivett Ortiz Coll works in New Jersey’s commissary department. She is headed to Temple University’s College of Science and Technology to pursue a degree in Biology.

Amber Koleskinki, who will be attending Rowan University in the fall has aspiration to major in Elementary Education. Her mother, Anna-Marie Kolesinki, works in the New Jersey plant’s prepared foods department.

To celebrate the scholarships, Taylor Farms hosted an onsite BBQ in New Jersey, where employees and their families came together for lunch while the winners were announced. Congratulations to Elivett, Amber, and their parents — this scholarship is so well-deserved!

  3. Meeting the Future of the Ag Industry at Local Career Expo

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Monterey County (BGCMC) and Mission Trails Regional Occupational Program (ROP) hosted the 10th Annual Career Expo and Community Resource Fair last Friday at the BGCMC Clubhouse in Salinas, CA. More than 300 enthusiastic middle and high school students attended this day-long expo, where they learned about career options and strategies to prepare them for successful futures.

The agriculture industry was well represented with representatives from Taylor Farms, Tanimura & Antle, Earthbound Farm, and Mann Packing in attendance. Students had the opportunity to interact with these industry professionals and learn about how technological advancements are shaping careers and opportunities in our industry. Team Taylor handed out our delicious snack trays, swag bags, and lettuce-shaped stress balls – which the kids noted would come in handy during final exams!

Our own Ted Taylor was on a panel at the expo speaking about innovation in the agriculture industry.

“The Boys and Girls Club Career Expo offered a unique opportunity to help educate local youth on the many career paths within our industry,” said Taylor. “With recent advancements in technology, the agricultural community must recruit a new set of skills to augment our more traditional roles. These youth possess the capacity and hunger to develop such skills, and with our future depending on them, it was truly an honor to be part of their Career Expo.”

Drew McDonald, VP Quality & Food Safety at Taylor Farms, completed his third year riding in the Tour de Fresh this week.

“This year’s ride was especially tough with some amazing climbs and challenging heat. The support from the team crews, organizers, technicians, and pro riders got us through the most difficult sections,” McDonald shared.  “ It was well worth it. Combining exercise and fundraising to not only bring awareness to reducing childhood obesity but to help provide actual salad bars to schools checks all of the boxes for a noble cause.   I am proud and honored to ride on behalf of Taylor Farms with these dedicated members of our produce supplying community.”
