Yesterday ten deserving students who are children of active, full-time Taylor Farms employees received $5,000 scholarships from the company to help advance their collegiate careers. The scholarships will be renewed annually, up to four years, as long as the students remain enrolled in undergraduate or graduate programs.
This afternoon the scholarships were presented at a luncheon hosted by Taylor Farms and Mark Campion, President of Taylor Farms Retail. For the first time, the scholarship checks were presented in Spanish by Rigo Ramirez, Director of Operations, Taylor Farms Retail.

Though the company has been awarding scholarships since 2008, the Scholarship Program was developed formally in 2012. The 12-member selection committee includes six people from Taylor Farms’ Retail division and six from the Foodservice division who serve two-year terms. To date, the company has awarded $320,000 in first time scholarships and an additional $220,000 in renewal scholarships.

Taylor Farms made a big splash at this year’s United Fresh Produce Association Expo, June 20-22 at McCormick Place in Chicago. At the event, we unveiled our latest salad innovation, participated in a major panel discussion, took home one major award and were a finalist for another of the organization’s most prestigious honors.
We’re thrilled that David Offerdahl, Taylor Farms’ Director of Ag Engineering, Harvest Automation, received the FreshTech Achievement Award during the expo in recognition of his outstanding service in the field of technology and automated harvesting. United Fresh said the award “honors an individual who has made significant technical contributions to the fresh produce industry.”

With its focus on produce innovation and creativity, The United Fresh Expo also was the perfect place for Taylor Farms to introduce the brand new Chef Crafted Salad Blends and to solidify our position as the fastest selling chopped salad kit brand with the most extensive line up in the industry.
Chef Crafted, our new product line featuring six distinctive blends that include unique greens, herbs, vegetables and fruit packaged together, was a finalist for a coveted Produce Innovation Award. United Fresh focuses special attention on new products and innovations like Chef Crafted “because they contribute substantially to the fresh and fresh-cut produce industry’s success.”
Another highlight at the expo was a panel of produce company leaders, including Mark Campion, President of Taylor Farms Retail, speaking on “Fresh Foods: The Retail Revolution.”
In his remarks, Campion said a key demographic shift among American consumers is the rise of dual income households. He said that, in 1960, only about 25 percent of U.S. households were dual income and will reach 70 percent by 2020.
He said the challenge to industry is to offer added value and convenience in quick “made in a minute” meal solutions.
“Fifteen years ago, bagged salads were an innovation, but that is no longer good enough,” he said noting that Taylor Farms’ new Chef Crafted Salads answer the call for greater sophistication and variety, offering herbs, fruits, veggies, leafy greens and other ingredients.
He also said about half of consumers eat meals by themselves and that Taylor Farms is looking at serving size and affordability as it reaches consumers in supermarkets, convenience stores and other alternative formats.
Every year, the United Fresh Produce Association brings together companies across every segment of the fresh produce supply chain, including growers, shippers, fresh-cut processors, wholesalers, distributors, retailers, foodservice operators, industry suppliers and allied associations.
It’s National Eat Your Veggies Day and our Taylor Farms Snack Trays are the perfect way to celebrate while getting your daily servings of fresh veggies.
According to a recent survey from Humana and Reader’s Digest, fewer than 26 percent of American adults eat the recommended 3-5 servings of vegetables a day. That means three out of every four of us miss out on the beneficial nutrients in vegetables that help keep our skin healthy, improve eyesight and help decrease the risk of heart disease, diabetes and cancer.
Our Snack Trays provide a range of choices so you can have a different snack every day of the week, including:
Healthy Harvest, featuring delectable apples, sweet carrots, premium cheddar cheese and raw packed almonds.
Little Dipper, with carrots, crisp celery, waffle pretzels, juicy tomatoes and Hidden Valley Ranch Dip.
Lovin’ Veggies is packed with carrots, celery, tomatoes and creamy Hidden Valley Ranch dip.
Protein Punch gives you a kick to get through your day with cheddar cheese, almonds, broccoli, and Hidden Valley Ranch dip.
Pure Veggies is our organic option with organic carrots, organic broccoli, and organic tomatoes and ranch dip.
Better Cheddar is loaded with waffle pretzels, premium cheddar cheese, carrots, tomatoes, broccoli, and Hidden Valley Ranch dip.
Bursting with Goodness includes broccoli, carrots and juicy tomatoes with Hidden Valley Ranch dip.
You can find our Snack Trays at Save Mart and Lucky’s, Stater Brothers, Wal-Mart and Safeway.
On National Eat Your Veggies Day and every other day of the year, be sure to grab Taylor Farms Snack Trays. Your taste buds and your body will thank you.
