  2. Gonzales High School and Taylor Farms Partner to Support SVMHS Heart Screening Program

Last Friday, October 21, Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System (SVMHS) kicked off a life-saving program called S.E.E., standing for Screen, Educate, and Equip, by providing more than 200 student athletes at Gonzales High School with screening for congenital heart issues. Taylor Farms was there supporting the effort by donating hundreds of our Snack Trays and handing them out to students while they waited in line to be screened.

This comprehensive program, funded by Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals at Salinas Valley Memorial, addresses the threat of cardiac arrest for young athletes who otherwise appear healthy and have no known medical conditions. Taylor Farms is very proud to be a part of this life-saving program SVMHS.

In addition to the screenings, 750 students and 50 faculty members at the high school received education and training in hands on CPR and AED use, throughout the 2016/17 school year.

“Our goal with the S.E.E. Program is to prevent a heart event,” says Pete Delgado, President/CEO of Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System. “Often times, parents don’t know their child has a heart abnormality until it’s too late. Not only will all Gonzales High athletes undergo these heart scans, their classmates will also learn some valuable lessons.”

  3. Get the Kids Involved With This Meatless Monday Challenge

Get the Kids Involved With This Meatless Monday Challenge ImageIt’s almost Halloween, and we bet the kids are getting excited! Because of this, we wanted to make this Meatless Monday challenge a fun one so the entire family can get involved.

This Greek Salad Pita Nachos recipe using Taylor Farms Greek Chopped Salad is so simple, the kids can help you prepare it. Using our Chopped Salad Kit, it takes less than 20 minutes to make — which will hopefully make your life a little easier while you prepare for Halloween tomorrow.

The Greek Chopped Salad blend has fresh romaine lettuce, cabbage, broccoli shred, green onions, parsley and crunchy celery tossed with Mediterranean-inspired ingredients like green olives and pita-style chips topped with our herb vinaigrette. Just toast the pita bread, add a few more simple ingredients, and you have a fun, healthy, (and delicious) dinner — and the opportunity to fill the kids with veggies before their candy binge! 5. Fueling the Future at this Year’s Record-Breaking Organic Produce Summit

Last week Taylor Farms joined the organic movement in Monterey, CA at the third annual Organic Produce Summit (OPS)! We were excited to participate and share the strength of our sustainability program and how our environmental initiatives are helping to fuel the future of the organic produce sector. From our implementation of renewable energy initiatives, including our unique energy ecosystem at our Gonzales plant, to our efforts in community support with our fresh food donation program, we are focused on paving a sustainable future.

“Since its start three years ago, OPS has been an exceptional show, and it is only getting better,” said CJ Given, SVP Sales, Taylor Farms. “This event provides a dynamic platform for key stakeholders to discuss the future of organics and sustainability in the fresh food industry. It’s a great opportunity to have such a collaborative event located in the heart of our largest growing region, near our production and corporate headquarters.”

On the first day of the Summit, we hosted plant tours for nearly 60 retailers at our salad production facility in Salinas, CA where we showed attendees how we produce our fresh, nutritious offerings, like our Taylor Farms Organic Chopped Salad Kits.

This year’s OPS smashed records with more than 1,400 people in attendance, which was a 40% increase over last year. Since its inaugural Summit in 2016, OPS has proven to be a great event focused on sourcing sustainable ingredients and continually innovating in the organic sector to meet consumer desires and needs. We look forward to attending again next year and seeing how OPS continues to evolve!
