  1. Blog Takeover: Lunches + Littles Love for our New Chopped Kit

Hi Taylor Farms Fans! It’s @lunchesandlittles here and we are so excited to be taking over Taylor Farms’ blog this month, which also happens to be National Salad Month! Yeah, did you know that was a thing? Well, it is- and we are so excited that salads get their own month of recognition because they deserve it! Crisp, versatile, healthy, endless options with something for everyone- yep, that’s salad, and we love it! Blog Takeover: Lunches + Littles Love for our New Chopped Kit

Now, if you follow us over on our feed, @lunchesandlittles, you already probably know that we love color, easy recipes and making meals fun! But, as a mom to three little ones some are still surprised to learn that we serve up salads as often as we do, though we aren’t sure why. Sure, salads sometimes get put in the bland, boring, or “diet” category, but truth is, salads are DELICIOUS, easy, and like we mentioned above- there’s a salad for everyone!

This month, we had the opportunity to try out the new Avocado Grilled Chicken Chopped Salad Kit from Taylor Farms and it was incredible. We added a couple of our favorites: tomatoes and feta cheese, but this salad kit is perfect straight out of the bag too. Green leaf lettuce, kale, carrots, cabbage and then some juicy white meat grilled chicken, fun (hello pink, orange and purple!) tortilla strips and the dressing- avocado ranch. Oh. My. YUM (and completely kid-approved in this home).

We have always said that you eat with your eyes first, and this “rainbow bowl” as our 6-year-old named it, definitely is a beautiful looking dish….

These kits are affordable, easy and since everything comes individually packaged inside the main bag, you can customize each salad you serve- which is especially helpful as a mom of little ones, who sometimes don’t love everything that come in some pre-packaged/pre-mixed options.

So, whether you are looking for a quick and easy lunch or dinner, an easy way to add some greens to your day to day, or just an easy and new way to expose your littles one to salad- Taylor Farms has you covered! Be sure to check out all of their options including their new Chopped Salad Kits!

  2. Taylor Farms Flips the Switch on New Dallas Solar Installation

As we continue to expand our commitment to renewable energy, we are proud to announce the completion of our latest project. Earlier today, we celebrated the installation of nearly four acres of solar panels at our new state-of-the-art Dallas facility, making it one of the largest commercial solar installments in Texas!

To inaugurate this monumental project, Taylor Farms Texas hosted a “Flip the Switch” event at the Dallas facility where Nicole Flewell, Taylor Farms Director of Sustainability, delivered a welcome speech, alongside guest speaker Jeff Reed, Senior Program Manager at ONCOR Energy, and Ralph Ynostrosa, VP of Operations at Taylor Farms Texas.

It was wonderful to have customer partners, local media, and project partners in attendance to help Team Taylor celebrate “Flip the Switch” installment, and we got the chance to serve some fresh delicious food — all from our prepared foods facility here in Dallas!

We began construction on the facility’s roof mid-September and completed the project this month. The system will produce 1.1 megawatts (MW) of direct current (DC) power for the facility daily – an approximate 17% energy offset for the plant, equivalent to removing 225 passenger vehicles from the roads per year.

  3. Taylor Farms Equips Students for Success with Backpack Giveaway

In addition to being North America’s leading producer of salads and healthy fresh foods, Taylor Farms is always looking for ways to give back to our community. One of our key focuses is supporting youth education and development, which is why we have partnered with Golden State Foods Foundation to give backpacks filled with school supplies to first graders at local elementary schools.

For seven years we’ve donated backpacks to every first grader at Salinas elementary schools: Roosevelt, Frank Paul, Alisal Community, and Los Padres; and expanded the program this year to include students at La Gloria Elementary School in Gonzales, CA. .

“We have always known about Taylor Farms’ history of supporting local school children and were absolutely thrilled when we found out the backpack program had expanded to include our school this year,” said Yolanda Barba, Principal, La Gloria Elementary School. “The donation makes such an impact on our students back to school experience and we look forward to many more years of partnership with Taylor Farms!”

In addition to supporting local schools, Taylor Farms has expanded the back-to-school giving to also include children of company employees. This program is a company-wide favorite where employees are involved from start to finish, from filling each backpack with school supplies, to delivering and handing them out to students during their first week of school.

“Our team members at Taylor Farms enjoy the opportunity to help give young students some of the tools they need to study for a bright future,” said Bruce Taylor, Chairman and CEO, Taylor Farms.

We believe equipping students with tools for education is extremely important, which is why we continue to hand out backpacks each year — with 2,880 handed out this year and over 9,800 to date!

  5. Taylor Farms Donations Support Young Faces of ALS and Corey’s Crusade

For the sixth consecutive year, Taylor Farms is very pleased to contribute $25,000 to the Young Faces of ALS and $250,000 to Corey’s Crusade foundations, to bring global awareness to this terrible disease that strikes people of all ages. ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) is a disease of nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord that control voluntary muscle movement.

Taylor Farms’ active engagement in the battle against ALS includes support since 2008 for the efforts of the ALS Therapy Development Institute (ALS TDI). Our involvement with this organization is spurred by the close friendship of our Chairman and CEO, Bruce Taylor, with a family who has been closely affected by ALS.

When the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge took the nation by storm via social media in 2014 to promote ALS awareness, Taylor Farms employees from New Jersey to California took part using recycled water from our plants.  In just eight weeks, millions of participants nationwide raised $115 million for ALS research.  Funds from this effort supported research that led a major recent breakthrough — identification of a new ALS gene that now ranks among the most common genes that contribute to the disease, providing scientists with another potential target for therapy development.

To date, we have donated $1.5 million to support the crusade of Corey Reich, who was diagnosed with ALS going into his junior year at Middlebury College, at the young age of 21. Corey helped establish Young Faces of ALS. He, his family and friends have been on a crusade to end ALS ever since.

Corey’s Crusade is a key Global Affiliate of ALS.net, raising more than $5 million since 2008 through a variety of events and campaigns. Corey has also played a key role in the ALS.net partnership with Major League Baseball and its clubs, by bringing awareness to the disease that befell baseball great Lou Gehrig.

Ted Reich, Corey’s father, is a member of the board of the ALS Therapy Development Institute and currently serves as the Institute’s treasurer. Corey’s Crusade gets support from private individuals, major corporations and companies like Taylor Farms, and foundations worldwide.

We at Taylor Farms believe that young people like Corey Reich can show us all the ways to achieve goals, however daunting they seem.

We are proud to do our part in helping bring an end to this debilitating disease.
